Welcome back to our second week of testing Liquitex Acrylic Mediums! If you’ve ever wondered whether these popular mediums are worth the investment, we’ve got the answers for you. Today, we’ll be testing four of the most intriguing products in the Liquitex lineup: Pouring Medium, String Gel, Ultra Matte Medium, and Black Lava Gel.

Hi, I’m Jess, and I’ve been working through a few Liquitex samples that were given to us, just to see what they can do. These mediums are a bit on the pricey side, so we’re here to help you decide which ones are really worth adding to your art toolkit.

Why Use Acrylic Mediums?

Acrylic mediums can completely change the texture, finish, or flow of your paints, allowing you to achieve effects that would be impossible with just paint alone. From creating smooth pouring effects to adding a gritty lava-like texture, each medium has a specific purpose.

But before you rush out and buy a giant tub, consider what kind of effects you want to achieve. If you’re not going to use a certain effect often, it might not be worth the splurge.

Check out the full video below to see these Liquitex mediums in action.

Liquitex Mediums We Tested:

1. Pouring Medium: Ideal for fluid art and smooth, glossy finishes. We’ll show you how it works and what results you can expect.

2. String Gel: This is a self-levelling gel with a syrupy, honey-like consistency that enhances depth of colour. We’ll test this gel to see how easy it is to work with and how it holds its shape.

3. Ultra Matte Medium: For those who prefer a non-glossy finish, this matte medium takes the shine out of your acrylics. Find out how it affects the colour and texture of the paint.

4. Black Lava Gel: A medium that adds gritty, lava-like texture to your artwork. Perfect for creating bold, tactile surfaces, but is it worth the investment?
